Patches for the currently available Early Access build of Divinity: Original Sin 2 will dry up while the studio knuckles down for the game's PC launch on 14th September. If an electric effect kills you, for example, your character will be visibly - very visibly - electrocuted, which is a nice touch. On top of that, Larian's animators show in the video how they've gotten creative with how living things die in battle. You can create them from scratch with Pixie Dust, anything wooden, and oil, or you can combine runes you've picked up with any other runes to create stronger versions of them.

Runecrafting is also introduced in the video and allows you to - as in other games - craft runes to upgrade your gear with. Source is a new resource in DOS2 acquired from Source pools or from Source apparitions, which you can, um, sort of eat, if you're that way inclined. You can even add a Source skill to the mix for a supercharged outcome - a Source-powered outcome.

Split-screen is demonstrated by developer Larian in a new DOS2 update video (below), along with - for the very first time - skill crafting! This new system lets you combine skill books, one elemental and one not, to make a new skill.

There are absolutely more skill books hiding out there as the game leaves Early Access and finally sees full release - and it's a good bet there will be different combinations for some of the same books.Split-screen play - either two people on one screen, or four people across two screens - has finally been confirmed for Divinity: Original Sin 2. Obviously in many cases its better to have a permanent skill (assuming you have the Memory available to learn it) rather than just a single use scroll.ĭon't have the specific needed scroll for a new skill book? Head over to our complete guide on crafting in Original Sin 2 for each individual scroll recipe. Here are the top crafting recipes players need to know. Players can spend hours upon hours combining items to try and make new ones through trial and error, or they can cut to the chase. You just need the appropriate scroll and a book corresponding to the appropriate skill type. Divinity Original Sin 2 has an in-depth crafting system with the ability to create hundreds of potential crafted items. Crafting these skills can make them available earlier than normal, or in some cases is the only reliable way to get the skill in question. While many skills are gained by buying books at different vendors (or found during the course of the game), you can actually directly craft your own skill books.

Note that you can actually kill the skill book vendors (or get them killed in certain quest lines) and leave yourself out of luck on the skill front until you head to a different area with a new vendor. Right now we only know the locations of Act I vendors, but check back soon for updates on the vendors in the other parts of the game. Divinity: Original Sin 2 Skill Book Vendors

For now, you need to know how to get new skills, either by buying books or crafting your own.

The wide range of skill combinations makes for a huge number of build types (which we'll be covering more in-depth soon in our character creation guide). In addition to racial, weapon, and Source skills, the 10 main skill types are broken down into the Aerothurge, Geomancer, Huntsman, Hydrosophist, Necrommancer, Polymorph, Pyrokinetic, Scoundrel, Summoning, and Warfare categories.
